Author Visit

Last Thursday, Year 7 participated in a unique experience where they attended a virtual meeting with the author Phil Earle, hosted by the Open University, along with nearly 3000 other children from across Britain!

The event was received with enthusiasm and all of Phil’s books in the LRC and on SORA were borrowed by lunchtime that day! His most popular book with our students is ‘Northern Soul’, possibly due to its comedic nod to Otis Redding, but ‘When the Sky Falls’, which was the British Book Award for Children’s Fiction book of the year in 2022, is also well received. Some students were so inspired by Phil they would like to write to him.

Mrs Hughes and Mrs Latter have had requests for another virtual author, so watch this space!

It is wonderful having conversations with students about other books they are reading and want to recommend, where they exhibit their genuine passion and enjoyment, and I would like to thank everyone in our community for getting behind this important initiative. At the beginning of July, we will hold Celebrating Reading Week and welcome any suggestions from staff, students and parents or carers of events or activities they would like to have.

Thank you and happy reading!
