Dear Parent/Carer
Can I start by thanking you all for your support in helping your child with their options preference process. Since early January we have held events, purposeful discussions and completed the formal process of choosing preferences for Year 10 and Year 11, but none of this would have been possible without your continued and unwavering support. I would like to formally invite you to attend the Year 9 Preparation Evening on Tuesday 20 May 6:00pm – 7:30pm, which will start with a short talk in the Main Hall, led by the Core Faculty Leaders, and then in adjacent classrooms for further question and answers.
The event will provide an opportunity for parents and students to engage in meaningful conversation with the English, Maths & Science faculties about the Key Stage 4 curriculum and what content will be delivered during each term. This will enable you to fully support your child’s learning journey as we enter the most important phase of their education so far. Each faculty will have links to websites and resources that will be useful in learning and retaining the information students receive in their lessons.
There will also be an opportunity to hold conversations with Lisa Noice (Family Liaison Officer) to signpost wellbeing support and there will also be some information about colleges and careers. Mr Norfolk will also be present to give you an introduction to how the Revision and Intervention Centre will work in KS4.
We hope that all parents and carers will take full advantage of this exciting opportunity to meet the staff and gain vital information on how best you can provide the wider support network with your child’s learning. Harris, A. & Goodall, J. (2008) state that when a parent/carer engages with their child’s learning through conversation and attending school-based events at KS4 there are significant improvements in both attainment and behaviour, so joining us on the evening would be a real positive step towards ensuring your child begins their GCSE course on the front foot. If you would like any further information about the event, please do not hesitate to contact me at mlimburn@croftonschool.co.uk
Yours faithfully
Mrs Limburn
Head of Year 9
